Kindness can be a way of life for children, if they see the adults around them adopting an attitude of kindness, compassion and empathy. When you engage in simple acts of kindness you encourage children to be kind. When you model caring behavior, they learn empathy by imitating you. Acknowledging feelings, involving children in acts of kindness and practicing perspective taking will help children to become compassionate, kind, empathetic adults.

It includes the following:
- 3 book suggestions
- Questions to ask children when discussing the skill
- 5 activity suggestions along with resources
- Two posters that encourages children to think about kindness.
- Situation cards to discuss kindness.
- Sorting cards for Kind/Unkind acts
- A kindness game
- A student handbook that includes an assessment sheet and 4 practice sheets (2 differentiated levels) that can be done at school and home
- A letter for parents, explaining the skill and suggestions on how they can work on the mentioned skill at home
This unit is part of the SEL program, Social Slate that I have conceptualized and created for young learners. The program lays a strong foundation to build social and emotional skills in children. It aims at helping children to understand and express emotions, resolve social conflicts and develop self-awareness. I have referred to the research work by CASEL while creating this program. The program consists of 12 units that help teachers and parents to lay the right foundation in formative years of children so that they can enjoy a successful & rewarding personal / professional life as adults.
